A Flea Pest Control Solution

Flea pest control is notoriously difficult. Fleas not only live on our pets; they can cause illness and disease to pets and people. They are adaptable and prolific breeders, laying up to 600 eggs in a lifetime, per female. Eggs and larvae, comprising around eighty per cent of the flea population, live comfortably and for generations in carpets.

Mature fleas that have not yet hatched from their pupal cocoons can even wait out an extended family vacation before hatching to feed on family members and pets. People are puzzled, returning home after several weeks to find themselves under attack from fleas that were never seen before the family left! Flea pest control suddenly becomes vitally important to the health of your family.

Walking across your carpets in white socks can give you an idea of the carpet flea population. You may also do a flea pest control test, constructing a do-it-yourself flea trap by placing a shallow pan of water with about half a teaspoon of dish detergent in it on the floor. Place a gooseneck lamp over the pan, adjusting it so the light is about six inches over the water. At night, adult fleas will jump toward the light and fall into the water. In the morning, you can do an adult flea "body" count determining under five percent of the total flea population in that room.

If you have pets, you probably already have a system for preventing fleas on them. In your house, you may decide to take a non-toxic approach to flea pest control. Ultrasonic devices emit a continuous sound that fleas, other insect pests such as roaches and spiders, and rodents can hear, but which people, cats and dogs cannot. Pests can't stand the high-frequency noise, and leave the house. With no adults to breed and lay eggs, your flea infestation is stopped. There's no baiting or spraying: all you have to do is plug in the device.
